The Hawaii County Fire Department rescued five hikers Saturday evening near the Mauna Loa summit. A sixth hiker walked out on his own.
The Fire Department said the group of hikers called and said they were lost and could not find their way down from the summit. A department helicopter crew located the hikers above the mountain’s weather station. Fire Department personnel and firefighters from Pohakuloa Training Area brought the hikers to the weather station. All six hikers refused medical treatment.
